Sports Mouthguard

A custom-made mouthguard is one that is made by your dentist following an impression of teeth and is fitted by your dentist. In order for a mouthguard to work effectively it has to be in position at the time of a bang to the teeth. This is why retention (ability to stay on the teeth) and accurate fit is very important. Custom-made mouth guards are individually moulded to fit the individuals teeth, and as a result, are able to stay in place better than shop-bought mouthguards. Custom-made mouthguards are superior in retention protection and comfort. At Nuala Cagney’s dental & Facial Aesthetics Clinic, we encourage patients to always wear a custom-made mouthguard to adequately protect the teeth when playing sports.
Your mouthguard will help to avoid fractured or broken teeth, nerve damage and tooth loss. It will also protect against injuries to your lips, tongue and soft tissues of the mouth. There is now also some evidence to suggest that wearing a mouthguard could possibly reduce the risk of concussion if there is a blow to the face.
At Nuala Cagney’s dental & Facial Aesthetics Clinic, we make high quality mouthguards for sufficient protection. We have a wide range of colours to choose from and we can promise next day fitting.
